Modules

A Module is a named group of challenges. Modules exist so that a set of challenges can be released to specific Audiences instead of to everyone.

A challenge belongs to at most one module. A challenge that is not in a module is ungrouped and is visible to everyone, exactly as challenges behaved before this feature existed.

Modules live under Admin Panel → Modules and are only accessible to admins.

The module page

Opening a module shows everything attached to it: the audiences that can access it, and the challenges inside it.

Use the pencil icon to rename the module or edit its description, and the trash icon to delete it.

Linked audiences

The Linked Audiences section controls who can access this module's challenges. Members of any listed audience can access every challenge in the module.

  • Pick an audience from the dropdown and click Link audience to add it.
  • Click Unlink next to an audience to remove its access.
caution

A module with no linked audiences is invisible to all non-admins. Its challenges are hidden from everyone until at least one audience is linked. This is intentional for staging content, but it is easy to trigger by accident.

Linked challenges

The Linked Challenges table lists every challenge assigned to this module, with its ID, name, category, and state.

To add challenges, use the Add challenges picker at the bottom of the page. Select one or more challenges (Ctrl/Cmd-click for multiple) and click Add selected to this module.

The picker lists every challenge that is not already in this module, grouped by category. Challenges that are currently assigned to a different module are marked as such — selecting one reassigns it, removing it from its previous module.

Click Remove next to a challenge to take it out of the module. The challenge becomes ungrouped, which makes it visible to everyone again.

Assigning a challenge from the challenge page

You can also set a challenge's module from the challenge itself, which is usually more convenient when creating challenges one at a time.

  1. Open the challenge in Admin Panel → Challenges.
  2. Select the Module tab.
  3. Choose a module from the dropdown, or choose none - ungrouped, visible to everyone.
  4. Click Save.

Deleting a module

Deleting a module does not delete its challenges.

When a module is deleted, every challenge in it has its module assignment cleared. Those challenges become ungrouped, which means they are visible to everyone — subject to the usual state, schedule, and visibility rules.

caution

If you delete a module to hide its challenges, you will achieve the opposite. To take challenges out of circulation, set their state to Hidden.

Deleting a module also removes its links to audiences. The audiences themselves and their members are untouched.

Visibility

Modules only ever restrict access. They never override challenge state, competition times, or the instance's visibility settings. A hidden challenge in an accessible module is still hidden; a challenge with a future Scheduled At stays unavailable to audience members until that time.

See Visibility for more detail.
